Frequent gout flares linked with poor health literacy, research finds

A study by researchers at Keele University looking at health literacy in people with gout in primary care has been highlighted by HCP live news outlet.
Researchers at Keele University compared people with gout who had poor health literacy with people who did not have poor health literacy.
The research team found that people with poor health literacy had gout flares more often and were more likely to have flares affecting more than one joint than people without poor health literacy.
The full study was published in Rheumatology Advances in Practice
Lead author Dr Lorraine Watson said “This study highlights the importance of healthcare professionals thinking about health literacy when they are providing information and education to people living with gout.”
